The constant connectivity of our modern society has made it possible to do immense amounts of research on your new home from anywhere in the world. If online research were all it took to find the right place to live, life would be perfect.
But as good as technology is, there is nothing quite like inspecting your potential home for yourself. If that isn’t possible, how can you find your perfect home from a long distance?

Know What You Want, Know What You Need
Before you can start looking, you need to have a solid idea of what kind of home will meet your needs. How much space will you need? Are you renting or buying? What is your budget? Do you want a residential home, or something close to work? Once you answer these initial questions, you can develop a clear picture of what you would like to have, and what you need to have.

Do Basic Research, Google is your Friend
Street View can show you a house by house picture show of your potential new neighborhood. The map app on any smartphone can tell you the drive times in your new town. A quick document search can explain all local taxes.
There is a world of information at your fingers, so use it! While the internet can answer almost any question, it won’t anticipate the questions you aren’t asking. It won’t give you insight into other options you might not have considered. For that sort of knowledge and service, you need to find a local person to represent your interests.

Prepare a Travel Budget
Be honest with yourself: you will need to take at least one trip to your new home before moving permanently. Decide what your travel budget is. Organize all the tasks you will need to accomplish while there so you can finalize them in one fell swoop. Don’t be afraid to coordinate with your real estate agent.

Find a Reliable Agent in the Area
The right real estate agent can be your representative in the field. They can get you the information you need to make a decision, and facilitate the arrangements and paperwork to make the process a lot easier. When you can find a local real estate agent who can act with your best interests at heart, the entire house hunting process will be much smoother.  At Allison Ables, we have extensive experience with managing the long distance transition. Our skilled team of agents has a tenure of service to a community that welcomes tens of thousands of new residents every year. Let us help you.
